TAKE A BOW! The team still has a lot more to do, but they also have a lot to be proud of. A job well done for now! |
Further workshops will have to be run to establish and improve on Standardized Work, reduce in-process inventory, improve ergonomics... Kaizen never ends! But the important thing is that the line was IMPROVED BY THE PEOPLE WHO RUN IT, and that the entire organization, including Management, Office Staff, Maintenance, Engineering (Design, Quality, and Manufacturing), Materials... EVERYONE either participated or was able to stand by and watch this attempt to implement Just in Time, Quality in Station, Leveled Production, 1 Piece Flow, Standardized Work, and the other principles of Kaizen. If the organization does not understand how these principles change the way work is done on the floor, the Kaizen effort will wither on the vine. Kaizen establishes systems and procedures, and these require everyone to follow rules and maintain order. When the organization is aware of this, even operations that cannot seem to get out of crisis mode will create the right envirnment for true, continuous improvement!
